The African Career, Education & Resource, Inc is an issue based organization founded in 2008. We are a volunteer-driven and community-based organization, in the northern and northwest suburbs of Minneapolis. We are committed to creating access to education, jobs, adequate health, housing, and the means to build wealth and financial assets.
OUR MISSION: To close the resource, health, information and civic engagement disparities within Minnesota’s communities of African descent, and help those communities achieve societal and economic independence.
We achieve this through our work in:
Community Engagement: An important fabric of ACER is our community volunteers who give their time, talents, energy and creativity to worthwhile causes to help improve the lives of people in the Twin Cities. ACER engages our community as well as initiates and supports community based forward thinking projects that address education, career, civic engagement and social issues affecting the quality of life where we live and work. Our work is aligned with the belief that it is those who are impacted who have the solutions to the issues.
Leadership Development: Through our work, ACER works to develop leaders in our community to continue to not only advocate for themselves, but to also take leadership positions in advancing equity in the region.
Economic Development: ACER believes economic vitality and independence is essential to our community. Since 2008, ACER has partnered to provide small business training right here in our community. ACER also works to advocate for development that will result in equitable benefits for the community. Through our career fairs, ACER enables our community to access and connect with employers to learn of existing opportunities. We also bring employers to engage with our communities and learn more about how they can partner with us.
Civic Engagement and Education: ACER understands that when communities understand the civic process, they are more comfortable and likely to participate in the civic engagement process. They are also able to set their own agendas and as well as make their voices heard through the electoral process. Through our civic engagement work and voter registration work, ACER partners to organize candidate forums to raise the accountability level of elected officials to our communities, as well as give our community voice. We also work to increase the voting base of our community.
